The Long & Narrow Way
Hallways, Alleyways, and the Pathways Through My Life
There’s something almost hypnotic about hallways, alleyways, and the paths in between. Some seem to stretch on forever, while others lead exactly to where they should— but no two ever feel the same. To me, that feels like life itself. Since moving to Milwaukee in mid-2022, I’ve been photographing these spaces, trying to hold onto the moments they bring back.
Here are some of my favorites:
Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin - January 2023
On January 8, 2023, four-time National Football League (NFL) Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers and longtime teammate Randall Cobb locked arms and walked off Lambeau Field for the final time as Green Bay Packers. The moment already carried weight, but that night, something else happened— the Detroit Lions became good again… for a first in my lifetime.
In this photo: I was on the field, helping a local utilities crew pull signage after the game. But for a second, I just stood there, staring down that tunnel.
MS Eurodam (Holland America) on the Caribbean Sea - November 2023
Barthel Fruit Farm in Mequon, Wisconsin - October 2024
Apple picking has become an annual activity for us— Patti and me. From our very first visit, we fell in love with Barthel Fruit Farm and plan to go back more often. After hours of picking and chomping, we let our bubble guts rumble through the family’s convenience store, packed with homemade treats. Our favorite? Apple Butter-Churned BBQ Sauce which tasted a lot like Kansas City-style BBQ.
Maybe it’s just me, but people do not talk enough about the BBQ from [my home state] Missouri. They should.
Lake Michigan lake walk in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - August 2024
When people ask what to do in Milwaukee, the first thing I recommend is walking out onto Lake Michigan, following the paved path between Harbor House and Discovery World. Not only does it offer a stunning view of a sea-like lake, but if you turn around, the entire Milwaukee skyline stretches before you— silent, steady, watching.
Top Chef: Wisconsin (Stage) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - August 2023
Comedy on State in Madison, Wisconsin - February 2025
Republican National Convention security checkpoint at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - July 2024
For the Republican National Convention (RNC), I originally planned to work with The Daily Show, but production was canceled after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life. As a lifelong fan of the show, I was bummed to miss out on that opportunity. Instead, I picked up work with Climate Power, helping build an interactive display (by Annie Saunders) which highlighted the dangerous effects of Republican policies on the climate. One of the main focuses was calling out Project 2025— right in the middle of the 2024 RNC.
Despite the apocalyptic undertones, it was a fun, educational, and eventful week.
The Harvey Train in Madison, Wisconsin - August 2023
“New York City” Alley in Downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin - July 2023
This alley was used for a short film production by Story is Everything, centered around Marvel’s Spider-Gwen. Late nights. Late thoughts— the kind that linger in the back of your mind like shadows that don’t settle the way they should.
